British
pop sensation One Direction, believed to have a large fan base in
Indonesia, have said they have no intention of staging a concert in
Indonesia due to widespread piracy in the country, a music executive
said.
“One Direction cannot come to Indonesia because they see
rampant CD piracy and rising illegal downloads here,” Sony Music
Indonesia managing director Toto Widjojo told a press conference on
Monday.
“[One Direction’s] album sales are not as high [here] as
those in Australia,” Toto argued, adding that he was upbeat that the
band would have second thoughts should there be a decline in the numbers
of illegal downloads and CD piracy in the country, tempo.co reported.
One Direction is confirmed to tour three continents: America, Australia and Europe.
